Reservoirs in the south east are again running low and we could be facing anoyther drought this year, so what can we do to save water?
In the good old days when we only had pillar taps with a twist head, you would have to turn the head a good few times to open the tap fully. As a result we only turned the head a couple of times and never needed to turn the tap fully. Fast forward to the era of the fancy lever taps. The movement range of a leaver is so limited, it’s easy to flick it to the max. The control is so binary - it’s either off or on. Very rarely do we set the lever in between. Consequently it gets flicked to the max and of course water pours down the drain. There are taps that restrict the flow but how many of us have them installed. So if we want to reduce water wastage the clue is in the head. Surly it’s not beyond our technological means to make a lever tap that has a number of preset stepped settings.
