Air bricks

25/6/2018

Air bricks provide subfloor ventilation to a suspended timber floor. It is important the air bricks are not obstructed or blocked in any way way as that would hinder the cross flow ventilation to the sub floor which could potentially lead to damp and decay issues to the timber joists in the future.

It is important when considering a rear extension, the rear air bricks do not get covered over as is often the case. In order to allow for effective cross flow ventilation, both front, rear and side air bricks if present, should not be obstructed.

The council clearly did not take these air bricks into account when they were renewing the pavement finish.
